Chescoe received a call from a Guernsey loss adjuster, asking us to attend a house that had a hot water vessel fail, resulting in ground and first floor flooding of the house. The kitchen and bathroom were unusable and the owner had to move out of the house whilst the remedial works were undertaken.

Chescoe quickly prepared a technical specification in a schedule of works and invited reputable builders to tender. We analysed the tender and administered the contract with the builder and the client on behalf of the insurance company and the loss adjuster. The project went smoothly and the home-owners had the assurance that they would be back in their house without unnecessary delays.

Chescoe has a client-first approach to working with people, we want projects to go smoothly and to do things in a proactive way, coordinating the management of all those involved in building project.

“A really valuable meeting yesterday morning I thought and I’ll have to say I was so impressed with the thoroughness and professionalism in the way you went through everything and dealt with all the issues raised.”

- Client Representation

As a result of an insurance claim against flood damage, Chescoe was asked to design a new solid floor to replace the suspended timber floor in the property and to incorporate an underfloor heating system.

This meant that the entire ground floor was to be removed from their house, including the kitchen and bathroom and the family had to be relocated for eight weeks.

Using a trusted heating engineer we designed and installed a new state-of-the-art underfloor heating system that runs off the existing oil boiler with thermostatic controls in every room which are all programmable.

This is a bespoke approach and design for the client. Chescoe worked closely with the builder with a hands-on approach, we were able to keep the client updated every step of the way, keeping them informed of any installation or design variations, payment certificates and completion of work.

- Heating installation project

A restaurateur in St Peter Port who required a building license and a liquor license from the Royal Court approached Chescoe for assistance. These important licenses were needed before builders could start work on the alterations they wanted to undertake.

Working very closely with the client, the contractor and their legal team we managed to attain all permissions on time and the builder was able to start work on the schedule of works and complete the building works ahead of their opening date. Checoe took a very hands-on approach, supporting the client at every stage of the project.

- Restaurant premises

Chescoe were approached by a local businessperson keen to take on the lease of a shop.
They required Listed Building consent, building regulations approval and an approval under the Fire Services law before work could commence.

We collaborated with a structural engineer to provide designs for some structural work and coordinated the project. There was a tight time schedule and by working closely with the States departments Chescoe managed to procure the approvals and licenses required so that the builders could complete their work. The project finished on time and the shop was opened on their desired launch date.

- Retail premises

“I was looking for someone to project manage a major renovation of my family home together with extensions both up and out, and Nigel was recommended to me.

I was not on the island for the majority of the 11-month project and his excellent suggestions along the way, his management of the complex issues that arose as well as his attention to detail has helped me to sleep at night and delivered the quality of the end product that I envisioned.

Nigel has consistently represented my best interests throughout and kept in close communication whenever required.  His skills and diplomacy have been invaluable.”
